Rapley's [12th Arkansas Battalion] Sharpshooters

Organization:
Organized with four companies, each one composed of men selected from the 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st Infantry Regiments in June 1862. Regiment surrendered at Vicksburg, Warren County, Mississippi, on July 4, 1863. Paroled there later in month. Apparently never reorganized. There is one reference to the battalion on April 20, 1864, as being in Fagan's Cavalry Division, District of Arkansas, Trans-Mississippi Department. Was probably a fragment of the command serving mounted in it's home state.
